2025 CELESTIQ – CADILLAC’S EV FLAGSHIP WITH SMART GLASS ROOF, COMING SOON

2025 CELESTIQ – CADILLAC’S EV FLAGSHIP WITH SMART GLASS ROOF, COMING SOON

Cadillac is renowned for producing vehicles that operate at the very top of their markets, combining high-end power with supreme comfort and a superior sense of style. But until recently, the Cadillac brand was noticeably absent from the electric vehicle (EV) market, focusing instead on developing its existing gas-powered lineup.

But not anymore. Cadillac has announced several models that will take them into the all-electric future, and one of the most intriguing is the forthcoming Celestiq, an all-new electric sedan that will be positioned as the flagship of the entire Cadillac range. The model hasn’t yet been officially unveiled, but the company has released plenty of enticing morsels of information to keep Cadillac fans intrigued. Here’s everything we know so far about the Cadillac Celestiq, due in Toronto soon.

UNIQUE SMART GLASS ROOF

The first uniquely impressive feature has little to do with the Celestiq’s EV status. In what’s thought to be an automotive industry first, the new model will be designed with a full-length smart glass roof consisting of four individual panels, one over each passenger seat. Each panel’s opacity can be controlled individually, letting each passenger dial in their preferred amount of sunlight or shade.

This feature is much more than just a novelty. Not only does it increase comfort for all passengers, but it means some of the load is taken away from the climate control system, leaving more explosive electric driving power over an extended range.

SLEEK EXTERIOR DESIGN

From the teaser photos released so far, the Celestiq looks every bit the upmarket, high-performance sedan it’s expected to be. As an electric vehicle, there’s no need for this Cadillac model to have a front grille for cooling. But instead of leaving a blank plate as so many other makers do, the company has added extensive sculpting and angles to give a dynamic front end with plenty of aggressive intent. Outsize wheel arches continue the theme, while the sweeping roofline combines the sport's appeal of a coupe with the spaciousness of a sedan.

UNDER THE HOOD

But of course, the key attraction of the Celestiq will be its all-electric powertrain. The final specifications aren’t yet available, but Cadillac has set down a marker by saying they intend the Celestiq to include the very latest and most powerful EV tech of any production car.

The basic design is thought to be shared with the new GMC Hummer EV range which offers outputs of up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500lb-ft of torque, alongside a maximum driving range of up to 560km. Again, we don’t know the Celestiq’s final figures, but it’s expected they’ll be as good as the Hummer’s, if not better.

However, Cadillac has released at least one firm detail of the powertrain’s specs. It’s confirmed that the new model will be all-wheel drive as standard, with four-wheel steering incorporated for agile handling to go with the mammoth electric power.

ALL-NEW ULTRA CRUISE SEMI-AUTONOMOUS DRIVING

Also confirmed is the fact that the Celestiq will offer the newly developed GM Ultra Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, thought to be among the most advanced on the planet. Hands-free driving will be available across up to 5.4 million kilometres of North American roads, with the software able to handle around 95% of all driving situations on paved-road journeys within its database.

TRADEMARK CADILLAC INTERIOR LUXURY

The unique smart glass roof is only the start of Celestiq’s interior luxury levels. Standard features are set to include real leather upholstery, open-pore wood surfaces, and metallic accents to set the upscale tone. The cabin will be designed in the 2+2 style, with a pair of bucket seats in each row, giving all occupants a similar level of luxury.

A confirmed technology detail is that the entire width of the Celestiq’s dash will be filled with a seamless digital display, covering instruments in front of the driver, infotainment and comfort in the centre, and entertainment options for the front passenger.

What’s more, each rear-seat passenger can enjoy their own independent screen, each having options for multimedia, online connectivity, and comfort controls. Each display will also be partially isolated by screening to allow private viewing without distracting other passengers or the driver.

WHAT IS THE CADILLAC CELESTIQ RELEASE DATE?

The Celestiq is officially slated for release with the 2025 model year label, but it appears the date might be a little earlier than expected. Full specifications could be unveiled as early as mid-2022, and production may start in early to mid-2023. However, until the schedule is confirmed by Cadillac, we’ll just have to wait in excited anticipation.
